Adjustable Kettlebells are a versatile piece of gear for any home gym. While there are a lot of options available in Australia, I found many of them to be of poor quality and offered a fairly lacklustre workout experience.
These are the best adjustable kettlebells currently available for sale in Australia. The options I’ve included are of good build quality and have a solid change mechanism.
The Best Adjustable Kettlebells in Australia
Bowflex Select Adjustable Kettlebell
The Bowflex Select Adjustable Kettlebell has the fastest change mechanism of all the kettlebells we tested. Even though the outside is made of plastic, during exercise this still felt like a Kettlebell. The Bowflex select can go from 3.5kg-18kg. The only downside is the handle is a little bit smaller than I would like.
The Bowflex system has a companion app with guided workouts. This is something you don’t get with other products. You can also register the product for extended warranty.
Overall I think the Bowflex Select is currently the best adjustable kettlebell available in Australia.
Powerblock Adjustable Kettlebell
The Powerblock Adjustable Kettlebell uses a compact, space saving cowbell shaped design. It may look a little odd but it surprisingly feels pretty good to work out with. This kettlebell has a range of weight from 18-35 pounds (I couldn’t find a KG variant). It uses a magnetic pin to adjust the weight.
Overall it’s a pretty good system and it feels very solid. It’s the most solid option I tested. The only downside is the lack of adjustment options and it is very pricey.
Ironmaster Quick-Lock Adjustable Kettlebell
The Ironmaster Quick-Lock Adjustable Kettlebell is less of a kettlebell and more of just a handle. It uses the Ironmaster Quick-Lock plates. You’ll need to buy these separately. The upside to this system is you can use the same weight plates for adjustable dumbbells. You could end up saving money in the long run.
The Ironmaster adjustable dumbbells are one of my favourite systems. It’s not as quick to change weights as other options, but they are super durable and will last a lifetime.
With Ironmaster you can enjoy the best of both worlds – kettlebells and dumbbells. You don’t need to pick one over the other.
Kettle Gryp – Best Budget Option
The Kettle Gryp converts an existing dumbbell into a Kettlebell. This is the cheapest option available but I’m not a huge fan.
While you’ll still be able to do most kettlebell moves, it just doesn’t feel like a traditional kettlebell. If you have an existing set of fixed dumbbells and want to do the occasional kettlebell exercise, this might be a good choice. But if you’re going to be doing a lot of kettlebell workouts I would go with one of the other options.
Other Options
Rep Fitness Adjustable Kettlebell (couldn’t find in Australia)
The Rep Fitness Adjustable Kettlebell has received good reviews overseas but unfortunately I wasn’t able to find it for sale in Australia. While there are Rep Fitness distributors in Australia, I couldn’t see the Kettlebell listed anywhere. If you’re desperate for this Kettlebell you could try calling a local distributor or importing it yourself. But shipping will be very expensive.
Do Adjustable Kettlebells Work?
Yes! If you’re looking to save space in your home gym, an adjustable kettlebell is a great option. Adjustable Kettlebells will feel slightly different to a fixed kettlebell but overall they will provide a similar workout.
What are the Disadvantages of adjustable Kettlebells
Durability is the main disadvantage of adjustable kettlebells. A regular kettlebell will last you a lifetime. They are basically indestructible and they can be thrown around. An adjustable kettlebell isn’t as strong and shouldn’t be dropped.
Should I buy Adjustable Dumbbells or Kettlebells?
Personally I’ve found adjustable dumbbells to be more versatile. If you’re looking to start working out, I always recommend starting with dumbbells. If you have a bench, a set of dumbbells will be super useful and you’ll be able to do a full body workout using them.
